Quiz app: which one to pick for playing in a group

How a game goes

1. Decide first whether your topic already exists. Thirty-odd official themes cover the big subjects; past that you need a tool that can build one.
2. Check whether your players have to install anything. EpiQuiz is an app: players install it once, then join with a code.
3. Look at where the questions come from. A quiz written in one pass by a language model is confidently wrong; research and then checking is what changes the result.
4. Choose for the occasion: a night with friends, a classroom and a work social do not want the same tool.

Common questions

How is this different from Kahoot?

Kahoot is built for a room: a host, a shared screen, quizzes prepared in advance. EpiQuiz is built for a group with no host, on phones, with a quiz made on the spot. For a classroom, Kahoot is still the better choice.

What about browser-based quiz sites?

Sites you play in a browser need nothing installed, which is a real advantage for a group you will see once. In exchange their question bank is fixed: they cannot build a quiz about something that happened yesterday.

What does EpiQuiz do that others do not?

A playable quiz on an arbitrary topic — including a recent one — whose questions are researched and then checked before they reach the game, rather than written in a single pass.

What does EpiQuiz not do?

No browser mode: players install the app. No projector or shared screen. And no manual editing of the questions before a game.
