Party game questions: which ones actually work
What makes a question entertain a room rather than stop it — and thirty-odd themes of questions already written.

How a game goes
- Prefer a question everyone can attempt to a question only one guest can win. A table that cannot answer checks out within two questions.
- Look for questions whose answer gets a reaction — a number bigger than people expect, a name they had forgotten. A good answer restarts the conversation.
- Avoid single-fact obscurity. Asking who won in 1974 cannot be guessed at; asking which country has won most often can be argued about.
- Mix the subjects inside a round. Three geography questions in a row turn the game into a written exam.
- Try one on somebody before the night. A question that does not work shows immediately.
Common questions
- How many questions for a party?
- Three rounds of ten, not one round of thirty. The gaps between rounds are what make the evening: scores get counted, an answer gets disputed, drinks get refilled. A long unbroken run becomes an exam.
- Should some questions be hard?
- A few, mixed in, never as a staircase. Rising difficulty loses half the room at the midpoint; mixed difficulty leaves everybody some questions of their own.
- Where do your questions come from?
- From a bank written theme by theme, researched and then checked before publishing. We do not claim they are guaranteed correct: a mistake can get through, and any question can be reported from inside a game.
- What if my subject is not one of the themes?
- The app builds a quiz on any topic in about thirty seconds, including a recent one — the research runs at the moment you ask.
